If I were to forget the notion of pixel art every so often, I would find the majority of indie games to be tremendously innovative in terms of graphics. The good thing is that this visual style fits perfectly. Do you remember the old ski game on Windows?

Skiing Yeti Mountain is a relaxing game about slalom. You are a proud member of F.A.R.S.E, The Federated Association of Radical Slalom Enthusiasts. Although this sounds highly exciting, the gameplay itself is far from from simulating the strain of sliding in a zigzag down a steep snowy slope. You might get a sore fingertip if you play it too long, though.

The game is composed of stages, many of them. To complete a stage you will need to reach the finish line without colliding with a tree, ...or deer and without straying from the slalom path. Missing a fence will reset the stage. On the other hand finishing it will yield XP and finishing it in record time will yield some more XP. Leveling up will unlock new skiing gear, such as a zombie suit or a full blown wizard's hat.

At some levels you will also unlock stages on Challenge Mountain. This one poses more challenging situations to overcome and generally offers a more tense experience. Lastly, after reaching a certain stage you will unlock Endless Mountain which is for all intents and purposes an endless run as long as you can keep up with the allotted time frames.

Besides the sports side, Skiing also features a sort of a story. Sliding down Yeti Mountain you will encounter all sorts of characters that will shape your journey and make it feel less repetitive, although the repetitiveness of each stage is mostly a given. Be weary, the mountain is not as peaceful as it might first appear to be.

The sound is very well done. All the sounds of sliding, hitting stuff and the occasional eh...natural sound contribute to a believable atmosphere.

Conclusion

With smooth controls, relaxing sounds and pleasant gameplay, Skiing is highly suited for a short run before going to sleep or on the toilet break. Although free, it's really worth the $4 needed to remove the ads. Recommended.
